Have you ever heard of people buying virtual real estate in the Metaverse? If you’ve never heard of this concept it’s going to blow your mind. People are spending millions of dollars on virtual land in a virtual world so they can make virtual money. In this video I want to tell you all about it, where you can buy it, and if it’s something you start investing in. 

WAIT, HOW MUCH ARE PEOPLE SPENDING?
A Canadian crypto company focused company called Metaverse Group just bought 116 pieces of land, each about 52.5 square feet, which totals 6,090 square feet. Just for context, that’s about the size of three tennis courts. That’s relatively small and they paid 618,000 mana (a cryptocurrency) which by today’s price would be worth close to $3 million. That was the record until just recently when that record was smashed by a company called Republic Realm who paid $4.3 million.

WHY WOULD YOU BUY LAND IN THE METAVERSE? ISN'T IT INFINITE AND UNLIMITED?
Not exactly. It'’s not infinite, it’s limited - like Bitcoin. Even though Bitcoin is digital, it is still scarce - same with land. According to Grayscale Trust (a group of really wealthy investors) says that the Metaverse is a trillion dollar market opportunity. That’s 1 trillion dollars in revenue per year. No company in the world makes that kind of money yet and land in the Metaverse is supposed to play a big part of that revenue. So the question is:

HOW DO YOU MAKE MONEY WITH THIS LAND? 
When it comes to making money with virtual land - right now the play is to buy and flip it to someone else who wants to pay you more money. That’s the short term strategy, and sometimes that can work. But the long term strategy is hoping to get a popular piece of land in a good location - it can someday be a place where lots of people go to. Kind of like Facebook.

People that own strategic virtual land, can make money by charging fees for hosting virtual meetings, they can charge people for hosting festivals, concerts, to play video games or other live virtual events.

IS THIS A SCAM? 
No. There’s a popular video game called Axie Infinity with over 360,000 players. Over 40% of people playing that game live in the Philippines and many also live in Africa. For playing this game successfully, they are rewarded - SLP - smooth love potion, with real dollar value. This is what’s known as play 2 earn. Here’s why that’s so important.

Ghana is a country in West Africa with a minimum wage of $2.05 per day. The living monthly wage there is $111.50. But get this, the average Axie Infinity player in Ghana is making anywhere between $140, to $420 a month. This is putting people out of poverty and well into the living wage spectrum. Video games like Axie Infinity are literally changing lives - especially once those games become global like Valorant, DOTA, Minecraft or League of Legends and are played on the blockchain.

The highest sale for a plot of land in Lunacia - which is land in Axie Infinity sold for 2.5 million dollars and allows players to level up their characters, mine valuable resources, and ultimately make more money with.

WHERE DO YOU BUY THIS LAND?
The first place is called Sandbox, created in 2012 which has 166,000 plots of land (limited supply) and it focuses on the creation of video games and NFTs. They partnered with Snoop Dogg, OpenSea, UbiSoft and Softbank and they and they raised $93 million in their first round of funding. 

The second place is Decentraland, created in 2015 - also very heavily funded - which also has a limited 90,601 parcels of land - they just recently hosted a several day music festival with over 80 artists.

Hey E.T Fam! I’m returning to share some bullish news with you all. I’m sure everyone knows by now that I’m always talking about how NFTs are the future. Well, today that was just proven in China. The crypto space has been plagued with news of China banning crypto monthly. This year has been especially heavy with the country banning Bitcoin mining and all crypto transactions. 

Well, it has been reported that despite the bans, NFTs are still a very hot commodity in the East. I’ve been on my soapbox for months now preaching the gospel of NFTS, how they will ultimately be the key to mainstream adoption. My convictions only grow stronger when stories like this one emerges. Everyone doesn’t understand the power of JPEGs, and everyone won’t. That’s fine, and that’s life. 

However, for those of you that do understand, you also understand how monumental this news is. NFTs are literally changing the world, and we’re still so early to the industry. E.T Fam, always remember: We are the world changers, and we are the dreamers of the dreams.

Non-fungible tokens are continuing to ignite debate over digital value, with many questioning whether they represent a legitimate new art form and a business opportunity, or whether they’re just the latest grift in the crypto asset sector.

After the world’s most expensive NFTs was sold by Christie’s auction house in March — digital artist Beeple’s “EVERYDAYS: the First 5000 Days” collage — interest in NFTs surged, and some expected a bubble was set to burst. However, looking at data from OpenSea — a peer-to-peer marketplace for crypto collectibles and non-fungible tokens — new records in transaction volumes are still being set monthly.

OpenSea’s NFT data shows that more than 1.04 million transactions have been executed over the past 30 days, reaching a volume of US$905 million (290,100 ETH). That’s an increase of 152% in transactions and more than 319% in volume above the previous 30-day period, suggesting that the market is about to dry up anytime soon.

NFTs are digital assets that exist on the blockchain, which acts as a decentralized ledger that publicly details every time an NFT has been bought or sold, keeping track of the piece’s provenance for its entire life. Blockchain technology also supports cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, but whereas those tokens are replicable or fungible, NFTs are unique and create a new form of scarcity.

There is no doubt that the sale of Beeple’s US$69 million NFT was a historic moment for the art world. The sale makes it the third-highest price ever paid for a piece of art by a living artist and has influenced a growing trend of NFT creators and traders.

In Hong Kong, we met with two artists —former street artist Szabotage and classically trained photographer Valentina Loffredo —who are leveraging NFTs to reach a new audience and push the boundaries of their own artistic vision and expand their reach through blockchain technology.

Axie Infinity was founded by Trung Nguyen, Aleksandr Larsen, and Jeffrey Zirlin in early 2018.  The trio met in 2017 because of Cryptokitties, the popular NFT game on Ethereum

They came up with the idea for Axie Infinity in December 2017 after realizing how unsustainable Cryptokitties and other blockchain games were at the time

👨‍🏫What Is Axie Infinity?👨‍🏫
Axie Infinity is an NFT game inspired by Pokemon and Tamagotchi. It consists of millions of ‘adorable fantasy creatures’ called Axies which can be bred, raised, battled

In terms of back end, Axie Infinity was originally built on the Ethereum blockchain with Axies as ERC-721 tokens. Naturally, SLP and AXS are ERC-20s

As of April this year, Axie Infinity exists almost exclusively on the Ethereum compatible Ronin side chain which was created by Sky Mavis for the sole purpose of hosting Axie

🤑How To Make Money Playing Axie Infinity🤑

Axie Infinity’s core philosophy is ‘play to earn’ and it practices this philosophy by rewarding its users for their time and effort instead of sucking them dry of every dollar they have like most video games
As you might have guessed, these rewards come in the form of the SLP tokens you earn from playing the game, and from selling any extra Axies you breed that you don’t want

💱Axie Infinity Economics💱

For starters, it’s not possible to create an Axie out of thin air. To get started, you need to buy 3 Axies from the Axie Infinity Marketplace.
While there are no limits on how much SLP you can earn from battling against other players, there is a daily limit on the amount of SLP you can earn

If you’re concerned about SLP inflation, that’s been accounted for too. I mentioned earlier that SLP is used to breed Axies. This SLP is burned

AXS is an ERC-20 token used for governance of the Axie Infinity NFT game. AXS is short for Axie Infinity Shards, and AXS can be either bought on a cryptocurrency exchange or earned by playing Axie Infinity

Axie Infinity is still in the process of rolling out Luncia, though the first ever land sale took place way back in January 2019

MLB joins the NFT boom with first token to honor Lou Gehrig

Major League Baseball is entering the NFT space with the help of Fanatics Chairman Michael Rubin and the formation of a new company called Candy Digital.

The firm agreed to a multiyear licensing agreement with MLB to produce nonfungible tokens. The first digital collectible will be an exclusive Lou Gehrig NFT, which will be available for bidding on the Fourth of July. It will honor Gehrig’s “Luckiest Man” speech on July 4, 1939, when the ironman New York Yankees first baseman retired after contracting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a disease that impacts the nervous system.

The Lou Gehrig NFT will also commemorate MLB’s first Lou Gehrig Day on Tuesday. The league wants to raise more awareness to help combat ALS, also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. 

Specific terms of Candy Digital’s agreement with MLB were not made available. But in licensing deals, MLB earns a royalty from primary and secondary sales of its assets. Candy Digital will earn revenue through primary sales of MLB’s assets and from NFT trading fees.

NFTs are tied to a blockchain, a digital ledger similar to the blockchains used for digital currencies like bitcoin. This effectively gives each NFT a unique and nonhackable certificate of authenticity. 

Candy Digital will run its baseball NFTs on the Ethereum blockchain. MLB will make its entire digital catalog available. So one day, Candy Digital could make NFTs of legends like Babe Ruth and Jackie Robinson.

“From trading cards to autographed balls, baseball fans have demonstrated their passion for the sport and its players through collectibles for decades,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred said in a statement. “In working with Candy Digital to offer NFTs to MLB fans, we’re delivering an exciting new addition to the robust baseball collectible market.”

Candy Digital declined to reveal its enterprise value or how much it raised to start. But in comparison, Dapper Labs, a similar firm that launched NFT product NBA Top Shots, raised $12.9 million via a Series A in 2018, according to Crunchbase. Dapper is valued at over $7 billion, according to The Information.

Founders of Candy Digital include Rubin, who is also a part of the Philadelphia 76ers ownership group, and Mike Novogratz, founder of crypto merchant bank Galaxy Digital. Entrepreneur and VaynerMedia CEO Gary Vaynerchuk will serve as a board member and advisor. Fanatics will serve as the majority owner of Candy Digital, and Scott Lawin is interim CEO.

Asked if MLB is an investor in Candy Digital, the company declined to comment. But the league is an investor in Fanatics through prior sports merchandise dealings.

The NFT sector exploded this year, with NBA Top Shots one of the main attractions. In March, Tampa Bay Buccaneers tight end Rob Gronkowski was one of the first athletes to release his version of the digital collectible. And boxing champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. also joined the NFT space last month.

Candy Digital says it will start will sports NFTs but wants to expand into entertainment and music.

“At its core, Candy Digital is about allowing everyone to own a piece of their passion — whether that be sports or gaming, fashion or art, music or pop culture, the goal is to broaden the fanbase of digital collectibles,” Rubin said in a statement.
