💵 Play-To-Earn 💵

How do you get paid to play a blockchain game? Well, there are essentially two key mechanisms:

► Earning in-game crypto through gameplay
► Earning or buying in-game NFT items and selling them in a marketplace for a higher price

⚽ Sorare ​​⚽

This is a fantasy football game where you collect NFT player cards and use them to compete in fantasy football tournaments for rare cards and ETH prizes. 

Sure, that could sound odd. However, Sorare has just closed a $680 million Series B round in Sorare, which valued the company at a whopping $4.3 billion.

But it is not just VCs investing in Sorare. It turns out that several key players in the game have invested too. This includes the likes of Antoine Griezman, Rio Ferdinand, Ceasar Azpilicueta and Gerard Pique. 

So, how do you play? Well you pick a team of five players, enter them into a league and earn points based on the players performance in real-life football games. The teams with the most points win prizes like rare cards and ETH.

These rare cards are tradable and some can be sold for over $100k in ETH - so yeah, it can really pay to play this game.

🏛️ TownStar 🏛️

This game is created by Gala Games. Interestingly, that company was actually founded by the co-founder of  Zynga - the guys behind Farmville. It also turns out that TownStar is essentially a crypto version of Farmville.

But what is the aim of the game? Well, you create resources and sell them to other towns. Those sales generate money, which can be used to upgrade your town and make it more productive. It’s essentially a game that replicates capitalism. 

But how do you earn in this game? You can earn NFTs which earn you Town Tokens based on the NFT’s rarity. You can then sell those tokens and earn more in-game assets by competing in weekly competitions to be one of the top settlements to win prizes.

⚔️ CryptoBlades ⚔️

This is a dungeons and dragons inspired game. Here you can earn Skill tokens by taking out those enemies, going on a raiding party with friends and staking your gains. Yes, you can also get special weapons to give you the edge in combat.

Those special items can be crafted as NFTs and used in-game or traded on the CryptoBlades marketplace. Your character is also an NFT too.

Take out those enemies and you'll earn Skill tokens. But be warned; you’ll need some of these tokens to play and it’s an on-chain game - which isn’t for everyone.

🏖️ The Sandbox 🏖️

This game is a massive metaverse where players create virtual worlds and monetize their gaming experiences. In a way it is a bit like minecraft.

The game has quite the range of universes to choose from and that includes the likes of Summer Jam Land, Walking Dead Land and even Snoop Dogg Land!

Within the game you can buy plots of land, which act as pieces of digital real estate. If you built a cool experience on your land, you can even charge other players SAND tokens to visit your land and enjoy those experiences you have built. Lands are also tradable.

💀 Plant Vs Undead 💀

This is essentially a blockchain version of Plants versus Zombies - a tower defence game where you need to stop those nasty undead.

The game has an in-game token called PVU which you use to get items like seeds and plants from the marketplace. Plants will also be tradable NFTs - a bit like Axie Infinity.

👨‍🏫Elrond Recap👨‍🏫
Like Cardano and Polkadot, Elrond is a competitor to Ethereum and seeks to be the foundation for the ‘new internet economy’. 

Unlike many smart contract cryptos, Elrond has a ‘growth at all costs’ approach and has wasted no time onboarding individuals and institutions.

💰ERD vs. eGold💰

In September 2020, the ERC-20 and BEP2 ERD tokens became convertible to eGold at a rate of 1000 to 1. eGold has a different economic model than ERD, namely a maximum supply just under 31.5 million.

11.5 million eGold will be issued over the course of 10 years to validators on the network, with about 10% being minted in the first year, about 9% in the second year, and so on. Fees can offset inflation. 

🥩Elrond Staking Rollout🥩   

Phase 1 began in October 2020, making it possible for users to “line up” any eGold they want to delegate to validators in an incentivized queue.

Phase 2 of staking began in December 2020, and involved the same sort of queue process and rationale as the delegation queue but for validators instead. 

Phase 3 began at the end of March this year with the introduction of staking pools and real network participation. It set to complete by April 5th, after which point Phase 4 will introduce governance. 

💲 Maiar Wallet💲

The Maiar wallet lets you buy, send, and receive eGold, BNB, and Ethereum. Maiar also has a generous referral program wherein you earn a cut of any crypto purchased by people you invite to the app.

The Maiar wallet already has more than 200 thousand users between Android and iOS devices. Elrond hopes the Maiar wallet will be the spear for retail adoption of eGold and the Elrond blockchain. 

🤝Elrond Partnerships🤝  

In December, Elrond announced that it had partnered with BitGo to provide ERC-20 eGold token custody. 

At the end of January, Coinbase Custody joined Bitgo in providing safe storage of the ERC-20 version of eGold. This could be foreshadowing a Coinbase listing for the native eGold token. 

📉eGold Price Analysis📈 

eGold has seen incredible price action since the fall and this seems to be primarily due to the introduction of staking and Maiar wallet.

Despite having a fairly large community, Elrond has not been covered very often in the crypto media. This will likely change as Elrond starts to roll out their DeFi ecosystem, which could boost eGold price. 

🕵️‍♂‍eGold Supply🕵️‍♂‍

Although Elrond began the conversion of ERD to eGold last September, there still seem to be hundreds of millions of ERD tokens sloshing around on Ethereum and the Binance Chain. 

Normally this wouldn’t be a problem, but the bridge to convert ERD into eGold is still open, meaning any ERD token whales could convert their holdings to eGold at a moment’s notice.

In fact, the lion’s share of eGold’s supply is being held by whales, and this seems to be true on Elrond, the Binance Chain, and Ethereum too.

What does an emerging tech like crypto have to do with a former Green Beret? Alex Pruden, a former U.S. Army Infantry and Special Operations officer turned a16z crypto deal partner, was stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Turkey, where he saw first-hand that the basic building blocks of modern life —  such as identity documents and bank accounts — could vanish overnight. 

When he finished his service, he found himself digging into the bitcoin white paper and was captivated by some of the implications blockchain could have in the Middle East and beyond. In blockchain and crypto technologies, he saw a new way to tackle the lack of trusted institutions that underlie many aspects of global conflict. In this talk, Alex shares the story of his unlikely journey from the Middle East to Silicon Valley.
